The mathematical development of the process model consists in:

- an overall understanding of the system and the phenomena involved
- mathematical equations are proposed to describe the system
- parameter estimation through data collected or the use of parameters from previous studies
- the model is implemented and solved in a computational tool
- the model is validated through literature or experimental data

A model aims to represent an image of what it is happening in the process and are involved in the understanding, the prediction and control, and the reproducibility.

Once you have a model, you can mathematically design the system for different conditions, control it in an smart way or optimize it.
