Process models

The mathematical development of the process model consists in:

  1. an overall understanding of the system and the phenomena involved
  2. mathematical equations are proposed to describe the system
  3. parameter estimation through data collected or the use of parameters from previous studies
  4. the model is implemented and solved in a computational tool
  5. the model is validated through literature or experimental data

A model aims to represent an image of what it is happening in the process and are involved in the understanding, the prediction and control, and the reproducibility.

Once you have a model, you can mathematically design the system for different conditions, control it in an smart way or optimize it.
